I have been drawn to painting since I was a little girl who would spend hours creating my own compositions. I was delighted to discover that I could combine color and form to create something from nothing. As I grew a bit older, I designed cards and jewelry for family members. Later on, I studied art in high school and college where I learned new techniques and dabbled in different medias. I was especially enamored by the French Impressionist painters who sought to capture on their canvases the impressions of fleeting light in nature.
After college, as I began to pursue a career in education, I found myself with less and less time to devote to painting. It wasn’t until the COVID-19 pandemic that I fully realized how much I missed the joy and sense of balance painting brings into my life. Eventually, in 2021, I chose to make a change--stepping away from teaching to pursue my artistry full-time. This was when my art business, Alissa Crispin Creations, was born.
My first public showing as an artist was in November 2022 at the Morgan Hill Open Studios weekend. From there, I began to show at various street fairs and wineries in the area. I also entered my paintings in the Santa Cruz and San Mateo County Fairs where they won “Honorable Mention” and “Second Place” Ribbons. In April and May of 2024, I had a solo exhibition, “A Celebration of Light and Color”, at the Morgan Hill Cultural and Community Center.
